Dr. Larry McKain has been our district superintendent since October 2014, bringing with him over 35 years of pastoral leadership experience through the Church of the Nazarene.
Prior to joining our district family, he had been the planting pastor of four Nazarene churches, taught church planting classes at Nazarene Theological Seminary, and most recently served as pastor of Lansing South Church of the Nazarene in Lansing, Michigan. From 1999–2010 he was the founder and executive director of New Church Specialties, a non-profit coaching and consulting organization.
He is the author of two published books as well as numerous articles. He has also written and launched a training and coaching system for leadership development called New Church University in which over 5,000 pastors and church leaders have participated from 15 countries.
Larry and is his wife Denise have two grown children, Sarah & Wesley.

Assistant District Superintendent and
Rev. Scott Whalen has served as our assistant district superintendent since 2017.
Under the leadership of district superintendent Dr. Larry McKain, Rev. Whalen oversees all administrative responsibilities for the Chicago Central District.
Prior to his service on the Chicago Central District, he has served as the music and administrative pastor at Highland First Church of the Nazarene in Highland, Indiana, the executive pastor at Sterling First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling, Illinois, and the associate pastor at Peoria First Church of the Nazarene in Peoria, Illinois.
Scott has earned a Bachelor of Science in Church Music from Olivet Nazarene University (2004) and a Master of Ministry from Olivet in 2015. He has a passion for leadership development and systems management within the local church on both the pastoral and lay leadership levels. He is the husband to Anne (Wadsworth) and the father to Ellie, Averie, and Jacoby.
